Indian-American Bobby Jindal (Louisiana governor)


The Indian-american Bobby Jindal was elected as the governer of the US state Louisiana. Amar Jindal, Bobby's father, had immigrated to the US almost 40 years ago - to settle down in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The 36- year-old Indian immigrant beat 11 opponents to become Louisiana's first non-white governor since 1870. Of about 70 percent of the votes polled, Jindal won nearly 53 per cent of them in totality. With this win, Jindal has become the nation's youngest governor in office.

Jindal was born on June 10, 1971 in Baton Rouge, Jindal was Indian American Person of the year in 2005. At the age of 24, he was appointed as the Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, in which capacity he fixed the health care system of the State.In 2001, Bush appointed him Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services for Planning and Evaluation. He held this post till 2003.Jindal lost to Democrat Kathleen Blanco in 2003, garnering 48 per cent of the votes.Finally he did it and now he has created history.
